Reading Event… “Can Psychedelics Reconnect Us with Nature?”

November 14 @ 6:00 pm 7:15 pm Pacific Time

Having considered parts of Aldous Huxley’s Doors of Perception and the Grofs’ The Stormy Search for the Self, Taimie Bryant, and Michael Powell invite a conversation on whether and how psychedelics connect us with nature.

This subject is thoughtfully introduced in a short article by Josey Murray titled Can Magic Mushrooms Reconnect Us with Nature? The link to the article is: https://www.mappmagazine.com/articles/magic-mushrooms

With good reason, there is a growing literature on this subject. The need for a connection with nature is important because studies have shown that most of us spend up to 90% of our time inside and that we and the world are worse off because of it.

People are increasingly reporting changed relationships with nature, and research, some of which is briefly described by Murray, reveals that experience with some psychedelics, specifically Ayahuasca and psilocybin found in mushrooms, reliably predicts nature-relatedness.

Also, can nature-infused integration techniques be particularly beneficial? Has it been your experience that you are more or differently connected to nature due to your experience of altered states of consciousness? Is experiencing nature in new ways a reason or priority in your entering altered states of consciousness? Are you spending time in nature and awareness of nature integration strategies you use?

Please join us for a consideration of these and other ideas related to psychedelics, altered states of consciousness, and connection with nature.

Facilitators:
Co-hosted by Taimie Bryant and Michael Powell.
